Resumen del curso: In the first part of the course Marina Statha will give an elementary introduction to theory of Lie groups and homogeneous spaces. This include the description of the Lie algebra of a Lie group, the adjount representation, reductive homogeneous spaces, and the isotropy representation. Also, invariant metrics on Lie groups and homogeneous spaces will be described.

In the second part, Andreas Arvanitoyeorgos will present the classification of compact, connected, simple Lie groups and will proceed on an overview of the structure theory of semisimple Lie algebras. Finally, he will briefly describe an important class of homogeneous spaces, the generalized flag manifolds.
